Strategies for Accessible Community Engagement

'Nothing about us without us' is a phrase being used by advocacy groups, agencies and government. This refers to the idea that decisions shouldn't be made about people without their input. Government, as well as community organizations and corporations are realizing that they need to make their community engagement strategies more accessible and are actively look for better ways to reach out. This workshop would look at what opportunities for accessible community engagement exist in the non-profit sector.
Goal of the workshop:
- Help non-profits analyze their current engagement strategies and develop new methods to engage their community partners, such as participants, members, volunteers and donors, in a way that's accessible.
- Organizations would leave with ideas on how to make their engagement more accessible for their community partners.
Workshop focus:
- Discussion on different ways to engage people and support that might be needed.
- Development and communication of materials in easy to understand language; benefits and examples.
- Strategies for focus groups sessions with unique support needs.
- Strategies for utilizing community partners more fully in community engagement.

Technical requirements:
To participate virtually, you will need a computer/mobile device with an internet connection, speakers and a microphone. A webcam is preferred but optional.

Course Cancellation Policy
Volunteer Manitoba may decide to cancel or postpone any event where the minimum registration level has not been met. In the case of low in-person registration, Volunteer Manitoba may decide to host the workshop virtually instead. If you wish to not participate virtually, you will receive a full refund.
All participants registered for an event that is cancelled by Volunteer Manitoba will receive a full refund.
Refunds will not be issued for cancellations received within 10 days of the event. Registered participants who fail to attend an event are still required to pay for that event, since a space was held specifically for that person. In case of non-attendance and lack of payment, the registered participant will be invoiced for the full fee, due 30 days from the date of the invoice.
