Fundraising Communications: Write so Donors Actually Give

Description

This workshop is for anyone at a nonprofit who writes communications that are supposed to bring in money!

Nonprofits run on donor support. And yet, for most organizations, writing the actual ask — the letter, the email, the campaign — is where the fundraising strategy falls apart. They're written about the organization, not for the donor.

Fixing that is learnable and the research on how to do it is clear. This workshop draws on the work of recognized leaders in fundraising communications.

This workshop is designed as a natural companion to Volunteer Manitoba's Introduction to Fundraising Basics, picking up where that session leaves off and translating fundraising strategy into the communications that actually drive results.

Why This Workshop?

Most nonprofit communicators haven't been taught how to write for donors. They write about what the organization does and wonder why results are disappointing. This workshop fixes that with research-backed, immediately usable approaches.

Learning Objectives

  • Apply the donor-as-hero framework

  • Use stories that move donors to act

  • Articulate problems in language that motivates giving

  • Write readable, skimmable, direct fundraising copy

  • Recognize high-impact elements and apply them across formats

  • Evaluate and improve your existing communications

Buffy Davey is a marketing strategy consultant who specializes in helping "little guys" clarify their message and market like the pros. She works with non-profits to transform marketing from an "off the side of someone's desk" job into a grounded and effective part of their overall strategy.

With over fifteen years of experience spanning many sectors, Buffy focuses on teaching practical marketing skills that stick. She believes in the beauty of brevity, and the power of sticky notes, and that every organization-no matter the size-deserves to connect with people who love what they do.
