Roles and Responsibilities of a Non-Profit Board

Board members of incorporated non-profit organizations play a vital role in ensuring strong and effective governance. They are responsible for setting direction, developing and monitoring policies, and ensuring the organization remains aligned with its mission.

In this workshop, participants will explore best practices in board governance, including the legal duties and responsibilities of board directors and key principles of risk management, to support strong leadership and mission-driven decision-making.

Topics Covered Include:

  • Key roles and responsibilities of the board and its members
  • Common board governance structures and which one best fits your organization
  • How committees can support the work of the board
  • Understanding bylaws, policies and procedures
  • Identifying the legal duties and liabilities of the board

Who should attend?

This workshop was designed to assist individuals with little (or no) board governance experience, those who would like to refresh their knowledge, or those who are working with boards that have gotten a little off track.

Facilitator

Jackie Wild is a communications and marketing professional, entrepreneur, and community leader with over a decade of experience across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. She is the founder of Tito Boy Restaurant and Delight Digital, and is known for her commitment to community building, social impact, and thoughtful collaboration.

Jackie also serves in several leadership and volunteer roles across Winnipeg’s community and nonprofit sectors. Her work has been recognized through honours such as CBC Manitoba’s Future 40 and the Filipino Journal’s 20 Filipinos to Watch.
